Writing an Examination whether JAMB, WAEC, NECO or NABTEB is always a time of being sober and studious. Hence, the need for students to
be well informed on how to study properly and efficiently for the best results.
The following tips might be helpful.
1.
Plan Ahead of Time: It is always advisable to plan ahead of time to avoid
stress during the exam period. But wait assuming you are about to sit for an
exam tomorrow as you'reading this article, never mind, just keep reading, ideas
here would be the most useful for you. Ensure you have a study plan and stick
to it.
2.
Take the Few things You Need (and eliminate distraction): The brain loves
concentration. Unfortunately, this is what some people lack. You can practice
this by eliminating COMPLETELY any potential distraction like mobile phones,
T.V, or any other leisure devices from you. There will be time for that later.
Also, do not go with bulky materials to your study. Only go with what is
strictly necessary like your notebooks, textbook, dictionary or any other thing
you might need. It will automatically make your brain feel light enough to
study. If you would need to use the Internet, you may need to promise yourself
that you would not divert into any other site other than the research site.
3.
Always Be With A Book: Don't Just let the book stick with you, read it all the
time. This simple action alone has immense benefits. You will learn a lot of
things doing this than at your study table. Now here's it: Anytime you study
something in an unusual place you would tend to remember it better than
studying it at a conventional spot like your study room. Imagine reading your
biology notebook while in the toilet. That definition of a complex term, you
tend to remember better in the exam hall because you learnt it in an unusual
way.
4.
Try Different Study Techniques (and adopt what worked best): Many people always
follow the conventional advice that looks like this: Adopt your learning style
. In my opinion, the term learning style has been overemphasized, it is simply
what conditions that suit us when we study. But you can never know it until you
try different study techniques and methods. Each style is unique, has its own
advantages and disadvantages. So it is advisable you know when to adopt the
right approach for different circumstances.
5.
Take Tons of Practice Exam Papers: This is perhaps the most useful advice i can
give to you. It is what actually helped me score A's in most of my exams. It
actually boosted my chances of performing well in any exams. Have a collection
of them and study at least a a portion of it every night until the exams. It
holds about 30% of your likelihood of performing brilliantly in the exams.
6.
Avoid Excess Socializing: Relate with friends but don't always socialise to the
extent of becoming a party freak or a drunken teen. After your success in the
examination, you can always do that for all day-long but for the sake of your
exams and academics in general, i would advice you quit partying excessively!
7.
Go In There With Confidence: If you've applied the above techniques. Believe in
yourself and go in there and ace that damn exams and i see success by your
corner.
